HYDROPHOBIC SURFACES - ACTIVE ADMIXTURES FOR CONCRETE AND MORTAR /IN FRENCH/
AMONG DIVERSE SURFACE-ACTIVE SUBSTANCES USED IN THE USSR AS ADMIXTURES FOR CONCRETE AND MORTARS, A VERY IMPORTANT ROLE IS PLAYED BY HYDROPHOBIC SURFACE-ACTIVE SUBSTANCES OBTAINED IN THE PROCESS OF MANUFACTURING CERTAIN OIL PRODUCTS. THESE ADMIXTURES ARE ADDED TO THE CEMENT CLINKER WHEN GRINDING, WHICH RESULTS IN OBTAINING HYDROPHOBIC CEMENTS. SOMETIMES THESE ADMIXTURES ARE USED WITH THE MIXING WATER WHEN MAKING CONCRETE AND MORTAR MIXES. THE IMPROVEMENT OF RHEOLOGIC PROPERTIES OF WET CONCRETE AND MORTAR MIXES MAY BE EXPLAINED BY THE "LUBRICATING" ACTION OF THIN ORIENTED FILMS OF THE MOLECULES OF SURFACE-ACTIVE SUBSTANCES. BETTER BEHAVIOR OF HARDENED CONCRETES AND MORTARS WHEN SUBJECT TO THE ACTION OF WATER AND FROST MAY BE EXPLAINED IN PARTICULAR, BY MODIFIED CRYSTALLIZATION OF FRESHLY SET CEMENT, BY SOME CHANGES IN ITS POROSITY AND BY MAKING THE WALLS OF THE PORES AND CAPILLARY TUBES HYDROPHOBIC. /RRL/LCPC/A/
