THE INFLUENCE OF MIX-DESIGN AND MECHANICAL RESISTANCE OF CONCRETE ON ITS FROST-RESISTANCE IS DISCUSSED. IF DURING CURING, THE TEMPERATURE FALLS BELOW - 10 DEGREES C, ALL CHEMICAL REACTIONS STOP. THE INCREASE IN STRENGTH AFTER THAWING COMPENSATES FOR THE EFFECTS OF FROST ONLY IF FROST HAD OCCURRED AFTER THE MECHANICAL RESISTANCE OF CONCRETE HAD EXCEED 70 PER CENT OF THE NORMAL 28 DAY STRENGTH. /LCPC/RRL/
