THE RAPID ANALYSIS OF CEMENT AND CLINKER BY MEANS OF THE THERMOMETRIC METHOD WITH DIRECT INDICATION OF PERCENTAGE

A METHOD IS DESCRIBED WHICH IS SUITABLE FOR THE THERMOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF THE MAIN COMPONENTS OF CEMENT AND CLINKER AND IN WHICH DIRECT READINGS OF THE RESULTS IN PER CENT ARE OBTAINED FROM THE INDICATING INSTRUMENT. WITH THIS METHOD A NUMBER OF COMPONENTS IN SUCCESSION CAN BE DETERMINED FROM THE SAME SOLUTION. FOR EXAMPLE, SULPHUROUS OXIDE, FERRIC OXIDE, TITANIUM OXIDE AND SILICON OXIDE CAN BE DETERMINED FROM ONE AND THE SAME QUANTITY OF MATERIAL WEIGHED OUT FOR ANALYSIS, IF THE FOLLOWING REAGENTS ARE EMPLOYED: BARIUM CHLORIDE FOR THE DETERMINATION OF SULPHUROUS OXIDE, AMMONIUM PERSULPHATE FOR THE DETERMINATION OF FERRIC OXIDE, HYDROGEN PEROXIDE FOR THE DETERMINATION OF TITANIUM OXIDE, AND HYDROFLUORIC ACID FOR THE DETERMINATION OF SILICON OXIDE. MANGANESE OXIDE, CALCIUM OXIDE AND MAGNESIUM OXIDE CAN BE DETERMINED FROM ANOTHER WEIGHED QUANTITY OF MATERIAL. IN THIS CASE THE REAGENTS ARE: POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE FOR THE DETERMINATION OF MANGANESE OXIDE, POTASSIUM OXALATE FOR THE DETERMINATION OF CALCIUM OXIDE, AND DISODIUM HYDROGEN PHOSPHATE FOR THE DETERMINATION OF MAGNESIUM OXIDE. DETERMINATION OF THE ABOVE-MENTIONED COMPONENTS INVOLVES NO SEPARATIONS. ALSO DESCRIBED IN THE ARTICLE IS A METHOD WHEREBY THE ABOVE-MENTIONED SEVEN COMPONENTS CAN ALL BE DETERMINED FROM ONE AND THE SAME WEIGHED QUANTITY. ALUMINUM OXIDE IS DETERMINED FROM A SEPARATE WEIGHED QUANTITY, IN WHICH, AFTER PRECIPITATION OF THE SILICON OXIDE BY DEHYDRATION WITH SULPHURIC ACID, HYDROFLUORIC ACID IS USED AS THE REAGENT. /AUTHOR/
