SKID RESISTANCE OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAYS
THE SKID RESISTANCE OF SELECTED MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAYS, PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENT, ASPHALTIC CONCRETE PAVEMENT, AND DOUBLE BITUMINOUS SURFACE TREATMENT ROADS WERE MEASURED WITH A MSHD SKID TRAILER BASED ON ASTM METHOD NO. 274-65T, BUT NOT HAVING A POSITIVE WATER METERING SYSTEM. THE STUDY INDICATED THAT 73% OF THE HIGH TYPE ROADS TESTED HAD SATISFACTORY OR BETTER SKID RESISTANCE. THE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ROADS WERE ATTRIBUTED TO THE MATERIALS CONTAINED IN ASPHALTIC CONCRETE PAVEMENTS. FACTORS INFLUENCING THE SKID RESISTANCE OF EACH OF THE SURFACE TYPES ARE DISCUSSED, AND RELATIONS FORMED BY EACH ARE PRESENTED. /AUTHOR/
