EFFECTS OF MIXING SEQUENCE ON MORTAR CONSISTENCIES WHEN USING WATER-REDUCING AGENTS
THE SEQUENCE OF ADDING WATER-REDUCING AND SET-RETARDING AGENTS TO CEMENT MORTARS SHOWED SIGNIFICANT EFFECTS ON INITIAL FLOWS, FLOW LOSS RATES, AND POSSIBLE WATER REDUCTION AMOUNTS IN TWO SERIES OF TESTS. ADDITION OF POWDERED CALCIUM LIGNOSULPHONATE TO CONTROL MORTARS SEVERAL HOURS AFTER MIXING WERE FOUND TO INCREASE PERCENT FLOWS WITHOUT GREATLY AFFECTING SETTING TIMES. SUCH ADDITIONS COULD BE USED TO RESTORE THE SLUMP OF CONCRETE WHICH HAS STARTED TO STIFFEN IN TRUCK MIXERS. THIS TECHNIQUE WOULD BE PREFERABLE TO ADDING MORE WATER TO A MIX.
