NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTNG OF RIGID PAVEMENTS

FOLLOWING A REVIEW OF MATHEMATICAL THEORIES PERTAINING TO VIBRATORY TESTING TECHNIQUES OF LAYERED SYSTEMS AND OF EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS OBTAINED BY VIBRATORY TESTS AND PLATE LOAD TESTS, THE RESULTS OF NONDESTRUCTIVE VIBRATORY TESTING PERFORMED ON A RIGID PAVEMENT BUILT ON A SILTY SAND SUBGRADE ARE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED. THEORETICAL PREDICTIONS OF DISPLACEMENTS ARE COMPARED WITH THE RESULTS, AND IT IS CONCLUDED, FROM A LIMITED NUMBER OF TESTS, THAT ONLY UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS CAN THE RESULTS OF VIBRATORY TESTS BE SUCCESSFULLY UTILIZED TO PREDICT DISPLACEMENTS UNDER A GIVEN LOAD. THE INFLUENCE OF STRESS LEVEL ON THE SOIL PARAMETERS OBTAINED BY VIBRATORY TESTING PROCEDURES IS DISCUSSED.
