SYMPOSIUM: EFFECT OF NEW EQUIPMENT ON ASPHALT PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION. PART 1: PLANT AUTOMATION AND DISCUSSION
AUTOMATION OF THE BATCHING AND MIXING CYCLES IN AN ASPHALT PLANT IS DISCUSSED. FOSTER DESCRIBES THE ELEMENTS OF AUTOMATING THE WEIGHTING PROCESS, INCLUDING THE MANNER IN WHICH STANDARD DEVIATIONS ARE USED. BRULE PROVIDES ADDITIONAL DETAIL ON EQUIPMENT AND OPERATING PROCEDURES ON THE EXAMPLE OF NEW YORK STATE SINCE 1960, LIMITING HIS DISCUSSION TO THE WEIGHING PROCESS. BROWN DISCUSSES THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF AUTOMATED BATCHING AND MIXING FROM THE PRODUCER'S POINT OF VIEW.
