EVALUATION OF-TEST TRACKING PAVEMENTS
A TEST TRACK THAT FALLS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN LABORATORY SCALE MODELS AND A FULL-SIZE TEST PAVEMENT IS DESCRIBED, AND RESULTS OF TRAFFIC LOADING TESTS ARE REPORTED. SURFACES, BASES, AND SUBGRADES OF DIFFERENT MATERIALS AND THICKNESSES ARE INCORPORATED INTO THE 12 SECTIONS OF THE TRACK. THE CRITERIA USED TO MEASURE PAVEMENT PERFORMANCE WERE DEFLECTION, VERTICAL STRESS ON THE SUBGRADE, AND STRAIN IN THE ASPHALT LAYERS. ELASTIC N-LAYER THEORY AND ELASTIC MATERIAL PROPERTIES WERE USED TO PREDICT DEFLECTIONS AND STRAINS; CORRELATION WITH OBSERVATIONAL DATA WAS GOOD. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE TESTS FORM THE BASIS FOR A METHOD WHEREBY LAYER EQUIVALENCIES OR OTHER PARAMETERS CAN BE ESTABLISHED FOR SPECIFIC SITUATIONS AND MATERIALS.
