EXAMINATION OF THE GEOMETRY OF THE SPECIMEN CLAMPING SYSTEMS OF TWO COMMERCIAL VERSIONS OF THE SLIDING PLATE MICROVISCOMETER SHOWS THAT UNDESIRABLE ROTATIONAL STRESSES ARE APPLIED TO THE SPECIMEN UNDER NORMAL USE. A MODIFICATION AIMED AT AVOIDING THESE STRESSES IS DESCRIBED. /AUTHOR/
