POSSIBILITIES OF INCREASING THE DEFORMABILITY OF ASPHALTIC- CONCRETE AT TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING POINT /IN RUSSIAN/

TWO METHODS ARE PROPOSED FOR INCREASING THE DEFORMABILITY OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE AT TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING POINT WITHOUT DECREASING ITS SHEARING STRENGTH IN WARM WEATHER: (1) USE OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE OF A GRANULAR STRUCTURE WITH A MINIMUM BITUMINOUS BINDER CONTENT; AND (2) INCREASE IN THE DENSITY OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE BY MEANS OF INTENSIVE COMPACTION. DEFORMABILITY WAS DETERMINED BY BENDING TESTS ON PRISMS MEASURING 4 X 4 X 16 AT 0 DEGREES C. FINE-GRAIN MIXTURES AND MICROCONCRETE WERE STUDIED. THE FINE-GRAIN MIXTURES HAD CHIPPINGS CONTENT OF 20, 35, 50 AND 65 PERCENT. NATURAL AND CRUSHED ARTIFICIAL SAND WAS USED IN THE MICROCONCRETE. /LCPC/RRL/
