THE RESISTANCE OF BITUMINOUS SURFACINGS /IN GERMAN/
EXAMPLES OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS IN SWITZERLAND AND FINLAND ARE USED TO PROVE THAT SURFACINGS HAVING AN ADMIXTURE OF 3% BY WEIGHT OF TRINIDAD POWDER OR 2% BY WEIGHT OF TRINIDAD EPURE ARE PARTICULARLY DENSE AND RESISTANT. IT IS ESTABLISHED THAT SURFACING MIXTURES HAVING A RELATIVELY HIGH FILLER AND FINE-SAND CONTENT ARE THE MOST RESISTANT TO STUDDED TIRES, AND THAT AVERAGE SIZED PARTICLES ARE MORE AFFECTED BY THE SCRATCHING ACTION OF THE TIRES THAN COARSE PARTICLES. AN ADMIXTURE OF TRINIDAD EPURE ALSO INCREASES ADHESION OF THE BITUMINOUS BINDER. /FG/RRL/
