NEW WAYS OF CONSTRUCTING GUSSAPHALT SURFACINGS FOR FAST ROADS /IN GERMAN/

IT IS SHOWN HOW IN THE MIX COMPOSITION, NAMELY AN INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT OF CHIPPINGS COMPILED WITH A DECREASE IN MORTAR, THE USE OF CRUSHED STONE SAND, AND AN INCREASE IN BINDER VISCOSITY, CAN IMPROVE THE STABILITY OF GUSSASPHALT AND MAKE IT MORE SKID RESISTANT. THESE ALTERATIONS IN THE MIX COMPOSITION WOULD, HOWEVER, REQUIRE NEW EQUIPMENT FOR PLACEMENT, ALTHOUGH THE USE OF ROLLERS DURING SUBSEQUENT TREATMENT OF THE SURFACING COULD BE DISPERSED WITH. GUSSASPHALT COULD SAFELY BE USED ON RELATIVELY STEEP GRADIENTS BECAUSE OF ITS INCREASED STABILITY. NEW METHODS OF HANDLING BINDERS AND CHIPPINGS SO THAT A MINIMUM POROSITY IS OBTAINED, THUS ENSURING STABILITY AND WATERPROOFING PROPERTIES, ARE DISCUSSED. THE TECHNIQUE OF USING GUSSASPHALT AND DENSER BINDER HAS ALREADY BEEN TRIED ON SEVERAL MOTORWAY EXPERIMENTAL SECTIONNS. /FG/RRL/
