THE VISCOSITY OF BITUMINOUS EMULSIONS AT LOW RATES OF SHEAR
A ROTATING CONE-IN-CONE VISCOMETER WAS DEVELOPED TO MEASURE THE VISCOSITY OF BITUMEN EMULSION SAMPLES UNDER VARYING CONDITIONS OF BITUMEN CONTENT, RATE OF SHEAR AND PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION. A SUMMARY OF EXPRESSIONS FOR RELATIVE VISCOSITY IS PRESENTED, AND THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS OBTAINED ARE USED TO TEST THE APPLICABILITY OF EILERS' EMPIRICAL EQUATION. THE VALUE OF EINSTEIN'S SHAPE FACTOR' AS DETERMINED BY THIS EQUATION HAS PREVIOUSLY BEEN FOUND CONSTANT: IT IS SHOWN TO DEPEND ON THE RATE OF SHEAR. /AUTHOR/RRL/
