INVESTIGATION INTO THE BEHAVIOR OF BITUMINOUS MATERIALS WITH WATER (IN GERMAN)
THE ROAD RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DARMSTADT INVESTIGATED DAMAGE TO BITUMINOUS SURFACES CAUSED BY THE EFFECT OF WATER ON THE ADHESION OF THE BINDER. THE INSTITUTE SUPPLEMENTED EXISTING TEST METHODS BY THE "RAIN METHOD", IN WHICH A SINGLE LAYER OF COATED CHIPPINGS IS SUBJECTED TO RAIN AT 50 DEGREES C FOR 1 HOUR AND AMOUNT OF MINERAL BINDER FREED OF BINDER IS ESTABLISHED. THE ADVANTAGE OF THE "RAIN TEST" AS COMPARED WITH THE GERMAN STANDARD METHOD IS THE HIGHER SPREADING OF THE TEST VALUES AND THE SHORTER TIME TAKEN FOR THE TESTS. /FG/RRL/
