PREDICTION OF THE DEPTH OF FROST PENETRATION: REVIEW OF LITERATURE
RECOGNITION OF THE NEED FOR A RELIABLE METHOD OF FROST DEPTH PREDICTION AND IMPROVED PAVEMENT DESIGN METHODS TO PREVENT FROST DAMAGE TO PAVEMENTS LED TO THE INITIATION OF A RESEARCH PROJECT DESIGNED TO STUDY THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AIR TEMPERATURES AND DEPTH OF FROST PENETRATION AS RELATED TO PAVEMENT PERFORMANCE OF WEST VIRGINIA'S HIGHWAYS. THIS REPORT CONTAINS A REVIEW OF LITERATURE AND SUMMARIZES THE CURRENT STATUS OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE FACTORS AFFECTING FROST PENETRATION AND OF THE METHODS OF PREDICTING THE DEPTH OF FROST PENETRATION. /AUTHOR/
