ON ONE-DIMENSIONAL FINITE-STRAIN BEAM THEORY: THE PLANE PROBLEM

The paper formulates a one-dimensional large-strain beam theory for plane deformations of plane beams, with rigorous consistency of dynamics and kinematics via application of the principle of virtual work. This formulation is complemented by considerations on how to obtain constitutive equations, and applied to the problem of buckling of circular rings, including the effects of axial normal strain and transverse shearing strain.
