AN EXPERIMENTAL CONCRETE ROAD 38 YEARS OLD: CONDITION AND PERFORMANCE OF SECTIONS OF A.316 GREAT CHERTSEY ROAD
IN 1930 AN EXPERIMENTAL LENGTH WAS LAID ON A.316 GREAT CHERTSEY ROAD TO INVESTIGATE DIFFERENT TYPES OF TRANSVERSE JOINTS FOR CONCRETE ROAD SLABS. THE COMMERCIAL VEHICLES USING THE SECTIONS NOW EXCEED 31000 PER DAY AND THE STRUCTURAL CONDITION OF MOST OF THE SLABS AFTER 38 YEARS IS GOOD. RESULTS OF DEFLECTION MEASUREMENTS ON THE JOINTS AND CONDITION SURVEYS ARE DESCRIBED. /RRL(A)/
