CONSTRUCTION OF STABILIZED BASE COURSES USING CUTBACK LIQUID ASPHALT
A COMPILATION IS PRESENTED OF EXPERIENCE AND COMMENTS RELATIVE TO THE STABILIZATION OF AGGREGATES WITH CUTBACK LIQUID ASPHALTS AS IT HAS BEEN PRACTICED FOR MANY YEARS IN CANADA. AN EFFORT HAS BEEN MADE TO EVALUATE TRADITIONAL PROCEDURES IN TERMS OF LABORATORY CRITERIA AND COMPILE A SPECIFICATION WHICH MAY BE USED AS A GUIDE BY THOSE WHO HAVE NOT PREVIOUSLY ENGAGED IN THIS TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION. THE AUTHORS SUGGEST THAT THE MARSHALL OR HUBBARD-FIELD CRITERIA ARE INAPPROPRIATE TO THE SELECTION OF THE DESIGN ASPHALT CONTENT FOR THESE MATERIALS. THEY ALSO PRESENT SOME SUGGESTIONS PERTINENT TO THE SELECTION OF THE GRADE OF LIQUID ASPHALT TO BE USED. /CGRA/
