POINT PLEASANT BRIDGE COLLAPSE MECHANISM ANALYZED
AN ENGINEERING MECHANICS ANALYSIS WAS MADE OF THE PT. PLEASANT BRIDGE. THE RESPONSE OF THE BRIDGE TO LIVE LOAD WAS INVESTIGATED, ALONG WITH SLIDING FRICTION, FATIGUE AND STRESS DISTRIBUTION. EXTREMELY HIGH STRESS CONCENTRATION AT THE POINT WHERE THE FIRST EYEBAR FAILED, CAUSED BY BAR TO PIN FRICTION, WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE CAUSE OF COLLAPSE.
