DESCRIPTION OF RESIDUAL SUBSIDENCE ON ROAD SURFACES, CAUSED BY IMPACT LOADING (IN GERMAN)

FULL-SCALE DYNAMIC CONTINUOUS LOADING TESTS (ON ROAD SURFACES), SIMULAR TO TRAFFIC CONDITIONS, CAN BE CARRIED OUT ON THE LARGE TEST RIG AT THE BUNDESANSTALT FUR STRASSENWESEN. THE LOAD IS APPLIED BY MEANS OF AN IMPULSE EMITTER FOR A PERIOD OF 0.02 SEC. AND WITH A MAXIMUM FORCE OF 2 MP TO 10 MP. THE ROAD SURFACE CAN BE HEATED BY INFRARED RADIATION DURING THIS TEST. THE RESIDUAL DEPRESSIONS ARE MEASURED, AND A CONVERSION FACTOR OF 2.9 WAS ESTABLISHED FOR THE DEPRESSION PRODUCED UNDER ARTIFICIAL LOAD ON THE TEST RIG, AS OPPOSED TO THE COMPARABLE AREA ON A TEST SECTION OF FEDERAL ROAD B288. THE DEPRESSION INCREASES WITH THE SQUARE ROOT OF THE AMOUNT OF LOAD DRIVING OVER IT PER TRACK. THE ARTIFICIAL LOAD ALLOWS 50 TIMES THE FAST MOTION EFFECT. IT IS HOPED TO ESTABLISH THE BEHAVIOR OF ROAD SURFACES IN TESTS OVER A PERIOD OF A FEW MONTHS, AND TO BE ALBE TO PREDICT RESULTS FOR LONG LOAD TIMES ON THE ROAD. /FG/RRL/
