ALLOWING FOR SHEAR DEFORMATION IN ORTHOTROPIC PLATE THEORY
A MODIFIED FORM OF ORTHOTROPIC PLATE THEORY IS PRESENTED SIMPLY-SUPPORTED RIGHT BRIDGE DECKS UNDER LINE LOADING, APPLIED ON A LINE PARALLEL TO THE FREE EDGES. ALLOWANCE IS MADE FOR DEFORMATION OF TRANSVERSE SECTIONS OF THE DECK IN SHEAR; THIS SHEAR FLEXIBILITY CAN BE SIGNIFICANT IN MULTICELL OR VOIDED-SLAB BRIDGES. A NUMBER OF CURVES OF DISTRIBUTION COEFFICIENTS FOR DEFLECTION, BENDING MOMENTS, AND SHEAR FORCES ARE INCLUDED. REASONABLY GOOD AGREEMENT IS OBTAINED BETWEEN THE PREDICTIONS OF THE THEORY AND SOME PUBLISHED EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS. /AUTHOR/
