THIS IS AN ACCOUNT OF A FULL-SCALE ROAD EXPERIMENT BEING CONDUCTED JOINTLY BY THE MINISTRY OF WORKS, NEW ZEALAND /ON BEHALF OF THE NEW ZEALAND NATIONAL ROADS BOARD/ AND BY MEMBERS OF THE CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY. PART III OF THE PAPER REPORTS THE INSTRUMENTS INSTALLED AND THE TESTING PROGRAM TO BE CARRIED OUT DURING THE NEXT FIVE YEARS. PRESSURE CELLS AND MOISTURE CELLS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED UNDER THE PAVEMENT SLABS AT A NUMBER OF LOCATIONS, AND PINS HAVE BEEN BUILT INTO PAVEMENTS TO PROVIDE A MEANS OF MEASURING PERMANENT DEFLECTIONS OR DISTORTIONS. MANY OTHER TESTS, INCLUDING BENKELMAN BEAM AND SKID RESISTANCE, AND STUDIES OF VEHICLES PLACEMENT, VEHICLE SPEEDS, PAVEMENT SURFACE APPEARANCE /AND DISTRESS/ ARE ALSO PLANNED. /AUTHOR/
