CONCRETE ADMIXTURES
THIS ARTICLE, BASED ON STUDIES OF FRENCH AND ENGLISH LITERATURE, CLASSIFIES ADMIXTURES (ESPECIALLY CHEMICALLY ACTIVE ADMIXTURES SUCH AS SIR-CONTAINING AGENTS, PLASTICIZERS OR WETTING AGENTS, ACCELERATORS, AND RETARDERS), AND DESCRIBES THEIR EFFECTS AND THE BASIC PRODUCTS USED IN THEIR MANUFACTURE - SOME CEMENT INGREDIENTS, E.G. ALKALI, SULPHATE, CHLORIDE, PHOSPHATE, ETC., CAN ALSO BE REGARDED AS ADMIXTURES. COMMERCIAL ADMIXTURES CONTAIN CONSTUTUENTS RANGING IN THEIR DEGREE OF PURITY, AND THEIR EFFECTS ON CONCRETE PROPERTIES CANNOT BE EXACTLY PREDICTED. IT IS THEREFORE NECESSARY TO SUBJECT THEM TO PRELIMINARY TESTS ON THE SITE.
