INTERNAL CRACKING
IN ORDER TO STUDY THE SURFACE CRACKING OF CONCRETE IN THE TENSILE ZONE OF A REINFORCING MEMBER, A NUMBER OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS AND CYLINDERS WERE INJECTED WITH RESIN AND SECTIONED ALONG THE LINE OF THE REINFORCEMENT IN THIS WAY, THE MAIN CONTINUOUS CRACKS WERE MARKED BY RESIN STAINING IN THE BAR RECESS AND ON THE BAR SURFACE. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT CRACK WIDTH IS A VARIABLE QUANTITY THE MEASUREMENTS OF WHICH ARE NOT REPRODUCIBLE AND CANNOT BE TAKEN AS A MEASURE OF THE INTERNAL CONDITION OF THE CONCRETE WITH REGARD TO CORROSION PROTECTION FOR THE STEEL. IT IS THOUGHT THAT THERE IS A NEED TO IDENTIFY FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH CRACKING AS WELL AS CORROSION AND SPALLING.
