SHRINKAGE IN REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS
FORMULAE AND DIAGRAMS ARE PRESENTED FOR THE CALCULATION OF STRESSES AND STRAINS IN A REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAM SUBJECTED TO SHRINKAGE DUE TO THE INFLUENCE OF ONE OR, ALTERNATIVELY, TWO LAYERS OF REINFORCING BARS. ALL THE FORMULAE HAVE BEEN DERIVED ON THE BASIS OF A THEORY WHICH HAS ITS LIMITATIONS DUE TO THE ASSUMPTION THAT NONE OF THE REINFORCING BARS ARE BENT AND TO THE FACT THAT THEIR BENDING STIFFNESS HAS BEEN DISREGARDED. IT HAS ALSO BEEN ASSUMED THAT THE CONCRETE SHRINKS UNIFORMLY OVER THE WHOLE CROSS SECTIONAL AREA OF THE BEAM. /AUTHOR/
