COMPARISON OF CONCRETE POLYMER COMPOSITES PRODUCED BY HIGH ENERGY RADIATION
THE RADIATION POLYMERIZATION OF FOUR DIFFERENT CONCRETES IMPREGNATED WITH EITHER METHYL METHACRYLATE, OR A PROPRIETARY SYSTEM DEVELOPED AT HARWELL, ENGLAND, HAS SHOWN THAT SUBSTANTIAL IMPROVEMENTS IN PROPERTIES CAN BE OBTAINED. THE MODULUS OF ELASTICITY WAS INCREASED BY AS MUCH AS 40 PERCENT AND THE INITIAL SURFACE ABSORPTION, AN INDICATION OF DURABILITY, WAS IMPROVED IN ALL CASES. ALTHOUGH THE PRESENCE OF MOISTURE REDUCED THE POLYMER LOADINGS OBTAINED, THE INITIAL SURFACE ABSORPTION RESULTS REACHED THEIR BEST VALUES WHEN WATER WAS PRESENT IN THE CONCRETE AT THE TIME OF IMPREGNATION. /AUTHOR/
