PRODUCTIVITY IN THE READY-MIXED CONCRETE INDUSTRY
PRODUCTIVITY IN THE READY-MIXED CONCRETE INDUSTRY INCREASED MODESTLY OVER THE PERIOD 1958-71, DESPITE WIDE YEAR-TO-YEAR FLUCTUATIONS REFLECTING THE LEVEL OF ACTIVITY IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. STREET AND HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION ACCOUNTS FOR ABOUT 10 PERCENT OF DEMAND FOR READY-MIXED CONCRETE. AN INCREASE IN THE CAPACITY OF TRUCKS USED FOR MIXING CONCRETE, HEATING OF BOTH WATER AND AGGREGATES, INSTALLATION OF TWO-WAY RADIOS IN TRUCKS, AND TRANSITION TO AUTOMATED PLANT OPERATIONS CONTRIBUTED TO PRODUCTIVITY INCREASES.
