NEW PROBE FOR TESTING WORKABILITY AND COMPACTION OF FRESH CONCRETE
A NEW PROBE WAS DEVELOPED TO ASSESS THE WORKABILITY OF FRESH CONCRETE AND TO DETERMINE THE DEGREE OF ITS COMPACTION AFTER IT IS PLACED IN THE FORMS. TESTS WERE PERFORMED WITH THE PROBE USING WATER-CEMENT RATIOS, AGGREGATE-CEMENT RATIOS, AND AGGREGATE GRADING AS VARIABLES. CONCURRENT LABORATORY TESTS WERE MADE FOR SLUMP AND COMPRESSION AND THE RESULTS WERE CORRELATED. ALSO, FIELD TESTS WERE MADE WITH THE PROBE AND SLUMP CONE SO AS TO DETERMINE THEIR RELATION. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE PROBE CAN ASSESS THE WORKABILITY AND DEGREE OF COMPACTION OF FRESH CONCRETE WITH SATISFACTION. IT MAY EVENTUALLY MAKE THE SLUMP TEST OBSOLETE. /AUTHOR/
