VACUUM HARDENING OF CONCRETE: STATE OF THE ART
VACUUM PROCESSED CONCRETE (VPC) HAS COME OF AGE AS A GOOD, PROVEN, DEPENDABLE TOOL FOR DOING CERTAIN CONCRETE JOBS SUPERLATIVELY WELL. VACUUM TREATMENT NOT ONLY IMPROVES CONCRETE STRENGTH, BUT IT ALSO REDUCES WATER ABSORPTION BY ABOUT 10 PERCENT AND DRYING SHRINKAGE BY ABOUT 30 PERCENT. THE RECENT RESURGENCE OF APPLICATION OF VPC IN NORTHERN EUROPE IS BELIEVED DUE TO: THE DEVELOPMENT OF EFFECTIVE, EASY-TO-USE AND INEXPENSIVE PROCESSING EQUIPMENT; A COOPERATIVE ATTITUDE BY LABOR; AND CONCENTRATION OF APPLICATIONS FOR WHICH VPC IS BEST SUITED, I.E. INDUSTRIAL, WAREHOUSE AND APARTMENT FLOORS, STRUCTURAL SLABS AND PARKING DECKS. VACUUM PROCESSING EQUIPMENT IS DESCRIBED. /AUTHOR/
