BLEEDING IN CONCRETE: A MICROSCOPIC STUDY
CONCRETE SHOULD BE REGARDED AS AN ANISOTROPIC MATERIAL. IT HAS BEEN SHOWN THAT THE STRESS-STRAIN BEHAVIOR OF A CONCRETE IN TENSION IS INFLUENCED BY THE DIRECTION OF THE APPLIED STRESS IN RELATION TO THE CASTING DIRECTION. A TECHNIQUE TO STUDY THE EXTENT OF BLEEDING IN A CONCRETE MATRIX HAS BEEN PROPOSED AND USED SUCCESSFULLY. USING THIS METHOD IT WAS SHOWN THAT WEAK POROUS REGIONS OF 0.1 MM THICKNESS CAN OCCUR IN A CONCRETE OF HIGH WORKABILITY. THE WEAR REGIONS BENEATH AGGREGATE PARTICLES ARE DETRIMENTAL TO THE DURABILITY OF CONCRETE. /AUTHOR/
