EFFECT OF WATER ON RESILIENT MODULUS OF ASPHALT-TREATED MIXES
THE RATE AND MAGNITUDE OF THE DECREASE OF THE RESILIENT MODULUS OF ASPHALT-TREATED SPECIMENS IN THE PRESENCE OF MOISTURE INCREASES WITH AN INCREASE IN EXPOSURE TEMPERATURE. THE FOLLOWING ARE AMONG THE STEPS RECOMMENDED TO MINIMIZE THE EFFECT OF MOISTURE. USE THE HIGHEST ASPHALT CONTENT CONSISTENT WITH THE REQUIRED MIX SHEAR STABILITY. USE THE HARDEST ASPHALT CONSISTENT WITH THE FATIGUE RESISTANCE REQUIREMENTS. PRETREAT AGGREGATES WITH AT LEAST ONE PERCENT OF LIME IN A SLURRY FORM. MINIMIZE INTRUSION OF WATER INTO ASPHALT-TREATED MIXES BY MEANS OF PROPER DRAINAGE AND SEALING.
