THIN LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHY FOR IDENTIFICATION OF PETROLEUM AND COAL-TAR OILS AND RESIDUES
A THIN-LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHIC (T.L.C.) METHOD HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR THE SYSTEMATIC IDENTIFICATION OF PETROLEUM AND COAL-TAR OILS AND RESIDUES. THE METHOD IS BASED ON THE OBSERVATION OF VARYING CHROMATOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SAMPLE WITH DIFFERENT T.L.C. SYSTEMS. THE CHROMATOGRAMS ARE VIEWED UNDER ULTRA-VIOLET LIGHT OF 350 NM WAVELENGTH. BY USING A SYSTEMATIC TABLE, THE NATURE OF THE SAMPLE MAY BE DETERMINED TO WITHIN NARROW LIMITS. THE METHOD HAS SO FAR BEEN SUCCESSFULLY APPLIED TO WATER POLLUTION CONTROL PROBLEMS. /TRRL/
