THE WIBAU-SL METHOD. A NEW METHOD OF DUST-FREE MANUFACTURE OF HIGH-GRADE ASPHALT

AFTER A REVIEW OF THE ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF THE PRODUCTION OF BITUMINOUS MIXES, THE NEW WIBAU METHOD IS EXPLAINED. THIS MAKES POSSIBLE THE MANUFACTURE OF DUST-FREE HIGH-GRADE ASPHALT WITHOUT USING EXPENSIVE DUST-REMOVING PLANT. THIS IS ACHIEVED BY USING LIQUID-CONTROLLED ADHESION IN DAMP WORKING, WITH AN ADDITIVE OF ABOUT 23% AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF METALLIC SALTS. THE TECHNIQUE AND A PLANT DEVELOPED SINCE 1968 ARE DESCRIBED. THE AUTHOR BELIEVES THAT THE SL METHOD IS ALSO SUITABLE FOR PREPARING MINERALS WHICH ARE NOT EASILY COATED AND FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF HOT-COATED MATERIALS WHICH SHOULD BE PARTICULARLY RESISTANT TO THE INFLUENCES OF WATER. /FG-RRL/
