THE PROPERTIES OF POLYESTER YARNS AND THEIR USE AS REINFORCEMENTS IN BITUMINOUS MIXTURES
THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE EFFECTS OBTAINED BY REINFORCING BITUMINOUS MIXTURES WITH HIGH-STRENGTH POLYESTER YARNS. THE REINFORCEMENT HAS A FAVORABLE INFLUENCE ON SEVERAL PROPERTIES OF THE MIXTURE ESPECIALLY ON ITS ABILITY TO ABSORB TENSILE STRESSES. BY INCREASING ITS RIGIDITY AND FACILITATING A BETTER DISTRIBUTION OF THE LOADS, IT AFFECTS FLEXURAL STRENGTH WHICH DOES NOT DECREASE SO RAPIDLY. FATIGUE PHENOMENA BECOMES LESS IMPORTANT AND CRACKS APPEAR LESS FREQUENTLY. RESULTS OF A SERIES OF LABORATORY TESTS ARE GIVEN AND THE CAPACITY OF THE REINFORCEMENT TO SLOW DOWN, OR EVEN PREVENT DEFORMATIONS OF THE HIGHWAY IS DISCUSSED. /TRRL/
