A REVIEW OF IMPACT AND FATIGUE FOR PRESTRESSED CONCRETE RAILWAY BRIDGES
A REVIEW IS MADE OF THE INCREASING USE OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE RAIL BRIDGES AND THE PRECAUTIONS NEEDED TO ENSURE DURABILITY AND RESISTANCE TO FATIGUE. THE IMPACT FACTORS REQUIRED FOR STEEL AND CONCRETE BRIDGES IN VARIOUS COUNTRIES ARE COMPARED AND IMPACT FACTOR CURVES APPROPRIATE TO PRESTRESSED CONCRETE RAIL BRIDGES FOR PRESENT DAY AND HIGHER SPEEDS ARE DISCUSSED. STRESSES SPECIFIED IN THE RUSSIAN CODE ARE QUOTED. IMPACT FACTORS CALCULATED IN BELGIUM ON BEHALF OF THE OFFICE FOR RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENT AND THEIR IMPACT FORMULA PROPOSED BY A RECENT REPORT TO UNION INTERNATIONAL DES CHEMINS DE FER ARE DISCUSSED TOGETHER WITH THE STRENGTHENING OF EXISTING STEEL BRIDGES BY PRESTRESSING. /AUTHOR/
