THE STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOR OF JOINTED PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS
THE PAPER PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF STATIC LOADING TESTS CARRIED OUT ON 56 PRECAST JOINTED PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS. THE SCOPE OF THE RESEARCH WAS LIMITED TO THE TESTING OF SIMPLY SUPPORTED UNBOUNDED AND POST- TENSIONED BEAMS OF SYMMETRICAL I-SHAPED SECTION WITH NO WEB REINFORCEMENT. THE RESPONSE OF THE BEAMS TO HIGH SHEAR FORCES UNDER THE ACTION OF A SIMULATED UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED LOAD WAS THE PRIMARY CONCERN. THE EFFECTS OF THE FOLLOWING VARIABLES ON THE BEHAVIOR OF THE BEAMS WERE EXAMINED: THE TYPE OF JOINT, THE POSITION OF THE LOAD POINTS, AND THE CONCRETE STRENGTH. CERTAIN INTERESTING BUT UNDESIRABLE BEHAVIOOR PATTERNS ARE IDENTIFIED AND DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS ARE GIVEN TO AVOID THESE EFFECTS. /AUTHOR/
