WHEEL LOAD DISTRIBUTION IN HIGHWAY AND RAILWAY BRIDGES
A SUMMARY OF TWO STUDIES OF DISTRIBUTION OF WHEEL LOADS TO THE FLOOR SYSTEMS OF SHORT AND MEDIUM SPAN CONCRETE AND STEEL HIGHWAY AND STEEL RAILWAY BRIDGES IS PRESENTED. THE EFFECT OF MANY CRITICAL FACTORS ON THE BEHAVIOR OF THE SYSTEMS ARE INDICATED. MANY OF THESE FACTORS AFFECTING DISTRIBUTION ARE NOT CONSIDERED IN THE PRESENT BRIDGE SPECIFICATIONS. USING RESULTS OF THESE STUDIES, PROPOSALS FOR NEW CRITERIA TO GIVE MORE REALISTIC DESIGNS ARE OUTLINED. /AUTHOR/
