BEHAVIOUR AND DESIGN OF CURVED GIRDER BRIDGES
A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYTICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY BEING CONDUCTED AT THE CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, U.S.A. DETAILS OF THE EXPERIMENTAL TESTS OF (1) A CURVED GIRDER SYSTEM, (2) PLATE MODELS, AND (3) BOX BEAM MODELS ARE GIVEN. THESE TESTS HAVE PROVIDED DATA WHICH WHEN CORRELATED WITH THE THEORETICAL DATA GAVE GOOD AGREEMENT. THUS, THE APPLICATION OF THE ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES IN DEVELOPING DESIGN INFORMATION HAS SOME CREDIBILITY. PRELIMINARY BRIDGE DESIGN INFORMATION IS GIVEN FOR EVALUATION OF: (1) INTERNAL GIRDER SYSTEM FORCES AND DISTORTIONS; (2) MAXIMUM NORMAL STRESSES; (3) IMPACT FACTORS; AND (4) COMPOSITE I-GIRDER PROPERTIES. /AUTHOR/
