DESIGN OF RIBBED FLAT SLABS
RECTANGULAR RIBBED FLAT SLABS ARE ANALYSED AS ORTHOTROPIC PLATES WITH ZERO TWISTING RIGIDITY. MOMENTS, COMPUTED BY AN ENERGY METHOD, ARE AVERAGED FOR THE COLUMN AND MIDDLE STRIPS. AS A RESULT OF THE MISSING TWISTING RIGIDITY, RELATIVELY LARGE MOMENT CONCENTRATIONS ARE FOUND IN THE COLUMN STRIPS, WHICH TEND TO ACT AS SUPPORTING BEAMS. MOMENT CONCENTRATIONS IN THE DIFFERENT STRIPS DEPEND ON THE LENGTH TO WIDTH RATIO OF THE PANELS AND ON THE STIFFNESS RATIOS OF THE RIBS IN THE TWO DIRECTIONS, AND ARE PRESENTED IN TABLES. /TRRL/
