MASTIMAC/MASTIPHALT

Details are given of a new material for overlays and wearing courses developed by STRABAG BAU-AG. The mixture is called mastimac or mastiphalt and has been in use since 1968. It is characterized by a very high content of chippings (70 - 80 percent of the weight) and a binder content of more than 22 percent of the quantity of mortar. The material has proved itself on main roads and motorways, on bridges, and on experimental roads in Holland. The new surfacings are wear-resistant, durable and as skid-resistant as gussasphalt. /TRRL/
