THE SELECTION OF THE LUMINOUS INTENSITY AS A FUNDAMENTAL VALUE IS NOT SATISFACTORY AS THE RELATION BETWEEN THE INTENSITY AND OTHER PHOTOMETRIC VALUES IS MATHEMATICALLY INACCURATE.  THE DEFINITION OF THE LUMEN FACILITATES THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN EXACT RELATION BETWEEN THE UNIT OF POWER, THE WATT AND A SPECIFIED MONOCHROMATIC RADIATION. FOR TECHNICAL AND AESTHETIC REASONS, THE LAMP POSTS  USED COMPRISED SIX SOURCES OF LIGHT DISTRIBUTED IN AN ASYMMETRIC FASHION, USING 1000 WATT HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM VAPOUR LAMPS.  THE DESIGN CALCULATIONS AND THE RESULT OF LIGHTING MEASUREMENTS (BY MEANS OF LUXOMETER RECORDERS MOUNTED IN CARS AND INDIVIDUAL MEASUREMENTS) AND MEASUREMENTS OF LUMINESCENCE, MEASURED BY THE ROSENHAGEN TYPE OF LUMINANCE METER.  THE LEVEL OF UNCOMFORTABLE GLARE IS SATISFACTORY AND, FROM THE ECONOMIC POINT OF VIEW, THERE IS A SAVING IN BOTH ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND MAINTENANCE WHEN COMPARED  TO CONVENTIONAL INSTALLATIONS.  THE SYSTEM HAS OTHER ADVANTAGES SUCH AS SAFETY, ILLUMINATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT, BETTER VISIBILITY IN FOG AND SAFE  MAINTENANCE.  DETAILS OF FOUNDATIONS AND SUPPORTS USED ARE GIVEN.]]></description>

For new installations, quantitative levels are recommended as well as a maximum power.
