      <description><![CDATA[Ce papier présente les principaux résultats d'une recherche visant à comparer l'impact de formes urbaines multipolaires spécifiques sur la distance domicile-travail. Trois aires urbaines françaises ont été comparées : celle de Lyon, qui présente une configuration des localisations encore largement monocentrique, celle de Marseille, qui est principalement duocentrique, et enfin l'aire urbaine de Lille qui est formée de quatre centralités de taille relativement équivalente. Les relations entre la forme urbaine et les caractéristiques des migrations domicile-travail sont appréhendées à travers l'analyse de la géographie des navettes et la distance associée à ces navettes. La conclusion propose des pistes pour les politiques d'aménagement et de transport.]]></description>

      <title>Spatial Mobility and Commuting: The Case of Two-Earner Households</title>

      <description><![CDATA[In this paper, the authors examine the effects of the spatial configuration of workers' residence and workplace location on intraregional residential and job moving decisions of workers belonging to 2-earner households. It is hypothesized that 2-earner households' residential mobility depends positively on commuting distance of both spouses, but negatively on distance between workplaces. Further, it is hypothesized that workers' job mobility depends positively on worker's commuting distance, negatively on spouse's commuting distance, and positively on the distance between workplaces. Using data for Denmark, it appears these hypotheses hold, and that the effects of the spatial configuration are rather large.]]></description>

      <title>Pricing, Capacity Choice, and Financing in Transportation Networks</title>

      <description><![CDATA[This article explores interrelations between pricing, capacity choice, and financing in transportation networks.  The article builds on the Mohring-Harwitz result on self-financing of optimally designed and priced roads and investigate it in a network environment under various types of second-best regulation.  A small network model with endogenous car ownership demonstrates that optimal congestion pricing and capacity choice over an entire network may cause user prices to increase more in initially mildly congested areas compared with heavily congested areas.  Furthermore, a flat kilometer charge under optimal capacity choice may result in first-best efficiency gains.]]></description>

      <title>Validation of Multiclass Urban Travel Forecasting Models Combining Origin-Destination, Mode, and Route Choices</title>

      <description><![CDATA[This paper describes the formulation, estimation and validation of combined models for making detailed urban travel forecasts.  These models combine origin-destination, mode and automobile route choices into a consistent forecasting method for multiple user classes in the Chicago area.  Household travel survey for 1990 is used to estimate the model, while Census Transportation Planning Package data for the same year is used to validate the model.  The findings confirm the feasibility of implementing and using a model that achieves internal consistency between origin-destination-mode flows and travel times.  The estimated coefficients are internally consistent with the model structure and the endogenous predicted travel times over the road network.]]></description>

      <title>THE GEOGRAPHIC EFFECTS OF TRADE LIBERALIZATION WITH INCREASING RETURNS IN TRANSPORTATION</title>

      <description><![CDATA[In order to investigate how the distribution of economic activity may change as a country liberalizes its foreign trade, this study develops a model of economic geography with several distinctive features.  The model recognizes that transportation is costly between locations within a nation as well as between nations, and that these transportation costs are subject to increasing returns to scale.  The model demonstrates that trade liberalization may cause the populations of a country to become more concentrated in a single megalopolis, which may reduce welfare due to congestion costs.  These findings suggest that a country might actually be left worse off as a result of liberalization.]]></description>

THE MODEL WAS CONSTRUCTED FOR THE PENN-JERSEY TRANSPORTATION STUDY AS PART OF A LARGER MODEL DESIGNED TO LOCATE ALL TYPES OF LAND-USING ACTIVITY. FOR THE RESIDENTIAL MODEL, IN A PARTICULAR ITERATIVE PERIOD, THE NUMBER OF HOUSEHOLDS TO BE LOCATED AND THE AMOUNT OF LAND THAT IS EXPECTED TO BE AVAILABLE FOR RESIDENTIAL USE IS FORECAST EXOGENOUSLY. A LINEAR PROGRAM IS USED TO PRODUCE, FOR THE END OF THAT PERIOD, AN OPTIMAL CONFIGURATION OF THE NEW HOUSEHOLDS ON THE AVAILABLE LAND. THIS CONFIGURATION IS OPTIMAL WITH RESPECT TO THE CONFIGURATION OF ALL PREVIOUSLY LOCATED ACTIVITIES, AND CONSTITUTES A PREDICTION OF THE WAY IN WHICH THE FORECAST HOUSEHOLDS WILL LOCATE. THE NOTATION IS PRESENTED OF THE DUAL OF THE ALLOCATION MODEL. LIMITATIONS OF THE MODEL, ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS ARE DISCUSSED. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE MODEL HAS IMPLICATIONS AND APPLICATIONS WHICH MAKE IT USEFUL IN A MUCH BROADER RANGE OF DECISION PROBLEMS THAN FOR TRANSPORTATION USE ONLY.]]></description>

THE ANALYSIS OF FHA SITE VALUES WAS COMBINED WITH CORRESPONDING STATEWIDE MEAN VALUES FOR ALL VACANT LOTS SOLD. THE TWO SETS OF VALUES FOR URBAN LAND-SITE AND LOT VALUES-BOTH PERTAIN TO THE MARKET FOR DEVELOPED /I.E., SUBDIVIDED AND IMPROVED/ SITES READY FOR BUILDING. This poses the question of how to measure an activity's importance. To answer this, the literature often uses regional input-output analysis. This paper critically reviews the traditional use of multipliers in such cases. To avoid double-counting impacts and to solve related conceptual problems, the net multiplier concept is introduced. This net multiplier is illustrated empirically for the Dutch transport sector using a Type II bi-regional input-output model for the Netherlands.]]></description>
