      <title>THE RAILROAD YARD WITH WET FEET</title>

      <description><![CDATA[A STUDY OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF ONE OF THE MOST ADVANCED ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED RAILROAD YARDS IN THE COUNTRY WAS MADE. THE HUMPYARD, LOCATED OUTSIDE MACON, GEORGIA, IS A MODEL OF EFFICIENCY IN FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION. A 205 FOOT, 26-FOOT-DIAMETER ARMCO MULTI-PLATE PIPE TRAIN TUNNEL, THE LARGEST SUCH CORRUGATED STEEL STRUCTURE IN THE WORLD, WAS INSTALLED UNDER THE HUMP OF THE MACON YARD. INSTALLATION OF THE TRAIN TUNNEL AS WELL AS OF THE DRAINAGE FACILITIES IS DESCRIBED IN DETAIL.]]></description>

      <title>TWIN CULVERT PIPES TAKE 36 YEARS IN STRIDE</title>

      <description><![CDATA[AN EVALUATION WAS MADE OF ARMCO MULTI-PLATE PIPES WHICH WERE INSTALLED 34 YEARS AGO AS A REPLACEMENT FOR AN OLD BRIDGE. THE TWIN PIPES, 120 INCHES IN DIAMETER, WERE COMPOSED OF CURVED AND CORRUGATED SEGMENTS OF HEAVY STEEL THAT WERE BOLTED TOGETHER TO PROVIDE A FULL-ROUND  DRAINAGE CONDUIT. CLOSE INSPECTION OF THE PIPES REVEALED THAT THEY ARE EXPECTED TO LAST ANOTHER 35 YEARS. THEY ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR USE IN SIMILAR LOCATIONS.]]></description>
