CAR OWNERSHIP AND PARKING IN INNER STOCKHOLM

Households in Stockholm, in properties built between 1971 and 1981, were asked about car ownership, household size, flat size, and parking cost. 80% own their car while 14% lease the car or use the firm's car. The average car ownership for all dwellings in the inner city is 0.34 car/flat. The figure for single persons is 0.23, for single parent families 0.18, for adult households without children 0.64, and with children 0.75. About half the cars are parked in the garage of the block of flats, 12% in the garage of some other building, 13% on outdoor sites, and 24% in the street. Previous investigations showed 39% parking in a garage and 44% in the street. One of the reasons for not parking in the garage of the block of flats was the high rent. This was stated by 17% to be sek 101-200 per month, by 63% to be sek 201-300, and by 20% to be sek 301-400. Most pay around sek 100 per month for parking on outdoor sites. Parking meter costs are stated by 70% to be below sek 100 per month, and by 6% to be over sek 300. Most of those giving low parking meter costs probably park somewhere else during the day.
