During fall and early winter habitat features were strongly related to the number and location of MVCs, whereas the influence of slope complexity was greater during summer. However, annual and seasonal models explained a limited amount of the variance in the number of MVCs (R² < 0.288) and could not be used efficiently to identify conflicting sections and set management priority. The longest and the most hazardous section tallied 25 km, which was surrounded by high-quality moose habitat. Track surveys in the summer of 2004 showed frequent movements across the highway, but little clustering. Because the authors could not find strong relationships between MVCs and road and habitats features, they used the numbers of recorded MVCs to delineate 5-km sections and establish actions to be taken to reduce risks. The top priority hazardous zone, which encompasses 25 km, will be fenced during the upgrading project and combined with two major underpasses.]]> Tue, 30 Jun 2015 10:33:20 GMT https://trid.trb.org/View/1359308 Evaluation of a Highway Improvement Project on Florida Key Deer https://trid.trb.org/View/1359298 Tue, 30 Jun 2015 10:33:20 GMT https://trid.trb.org/View/1359298 What Features of the Landscape and Highway Influence Ungulate Vehicle Collisions in the Watersheds of the Central Canadian Rocky Mountains: A Fine-Scale Perspective? https://trid.trb.org/View/1359317 Tue, 30 Jun 2015 10:33:20 GMT https://trid.trb.org/View/1359317 Characteristics of Elk-Vehicle Collisions and Comparison to GPS-Determined Highway Crossing Patterns https://trid.trb.org/View/1359293 Tue, 30 Jun 2015 10:33:19 GMT https://trid.trb.org/View/1359293 Reliability of the Animal Detection System Along US Hwy 191 in Yellowstone National Park, Montana, USA https://trid.trb.org/View/1359304 Tue, 30 Jun 2015 10:33:19 GMT https://trid.trb.org/View/1359304 Design, Installation, and Monitoring of Safe Crossing Points for Bats on a New Highway Scheme in Wales https://trid.trb.org/View/1359217 Mon, 29 Jun 2015 09:25:37 GMT https://trid.trb.org/View/1359217 Use of Highway Underpasses by Large Mammals and Other Wildlife in Virginia and Factors Influencing Their Effectiveness https://trid.trb.org/View/1359226 Mon, 29 Jun 2015 09:25:37 GMT https://trid.trb.org/View/1359226 Wildlife Crossings in North America: The State of the Science and Practice https://trid.trb.org/View/1359227 Mon, 29 Jun 2015 09:25:37 GMT https://trid.trb.org/View/1359227 Wildlife Tunnels and Fauna Bridges in Poland: Past, Present and Future, 1997-2013 https://trid.trb.org/View/1359228 Mon, 29 Jun 2015 09:25:37 GMT https://trid.trb.org/View/1359228 Ecological Impacts of SR 200 on the Ross Prairie Ecosystem https://trid.trb.org/View/1359219 Mon, 29 Jun 2015 09:25:36 GMT https://trid.trb.org/View/1359219 Spotted Turtle Use of a Culvert Under Relocated Route 44 in Carver, Massachusetts https://trid.trb.org/View/1359225 Mon, 29 Jun 2015 09:25:36 GMT https://trid.trb.org/View/1359225
