(A) ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH: With the aim of improving sustainability and resource efficiency, the use of variable weak rocks as earthwork material must be increased in the future. The problem of variable weak rocks is that their soil-mechanical properties can change after being released from the mountain range under the influence of weathering processes. Therefore, their utilization is still hesitant. Systematic investigations of the bearing capacity and deformation behavior have already shown that the soil-mechanical properties depend not only on their composition and the internal binding forces, but also on their initial conditions and the degree of decay. Moreover, it was found that the swelling potential can be activated even by a disintegration of the diagenetic bonds. In order to be able to use variable weak rocks in earthworks close to the surface, a possible swelling potential should also be taken into account. Therefore, systematic swelling tests were carried out on six different swellable soils and rocks, depending on the initial conditions and the degree of decay. Since there is a linear relationship between swelling pressure and swelling strain, it can first be assessed with the help of the swelling pressure test whether swelling strain tests are necessary in the first place. For soils with a higher fine grain content (d < 0,06 mm) > 15 mass percent, and for soils that disintegrate quickly into a fine-grained soil (Id2 < 60 %), swelling pressure tests should be carried out first. If, at the described limits of the classification parameters, the maximum swelling pressures are higher than σ > 100 kPa, then swelling strain tests and a clay mineral analysis must be additionally carried out. To summarize, variable weak rocks can be principally used as earthworks materials. Due to their weathering sensitivity, higher requirements on the earthmoving processes are necessary. After being released from the mountain range, variable weak rocks can disintegrate completely into a finer grained soil during the earthmoving processes. This decay leads to a deterioration of the soil-mechanical properties. Therefore, temporary storing without additional protective measures should be avoided because of the increase in the proportion of fine grains. Because the higher the fine grain content of a soil and thus its specific surface, the more water can be adsorbed onto the surface of the clay minerals. In order to reduce the sagging and swelling potential, a limitation of the air pores of na < 6 volume percent should be targeted. The installation should be carried out at least 1 m below the slope surface or below the levelled ground due to its weathering sensitivity. However, due to their heterogeneity, test fields are absolutely necessary for checking the placing and compaction specifications.
