This is associated with an increase in dry density and grain size fragmentation. Infiltration experiments on samples prepared with similar ("fixed") water contents and similar grain size fragmentation showed predominantly an infiltration coefficient above, sometimes far above, 10-6 m/s. Since the results of the infiltration samples differed only slightly from each other, a relation to the degree of compaction could neither be confirmed nor denied. Likewise, no correlation could be established between occurring grain size fragmentation and infiltration coefficient. The research project demonstrated the suitability of the vibratory hammer method, considering a limited impact energy, as an alternative to the Proctor method and enabled the draft design of the specification TP Gestein-StB to produce specimens with a vibrating hammer in the 250 mm compression pot (e.g. for infiltration experiments).
