      <title>ON LATERAL STABILITY OF AIRPLANES UNDER RANDOM PARAMETRIC EXCITATIONS DUE TO VERTICAL GUSTS</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Variations of the angle of attack due to vertical gusts change the values of the lateral stability derivatives and influence the lateral stability of airplanes.  Since the vertical turbulence can best be described as a stochastic process the coefficients of the equations of motion are randomly excited.  Stability criteria for linear stochastic differential equations and computer simulation of aircraft behavior under random parametric excitation are used to determine and to discuss possible lateral instabilities during flight in turbulence.]]></description>

      <title>WIND MEASUREMENT SYSTEM</title>

      <description><![CDATA[A system for remotely measuring vertical and horizontal winds present in discrete volumes of air at selected locations above the ground is described. A laser beam is optically focused in range by a telescope, and the output beam is conically scanned at an angle about a vertical axis. The backscatter, or reflected light, from the ambient particulates in a volume of air, the focal volume, is detected for shifts in wavelength, and from these, horizontal and vertical wind components are computed.]]></description>
