      <title>The influence of organisational dependencies and planning frameworks on construction and demolition (C&amp;D) waste circularity in Sweden</title>

      <description><![CDATA[The purpose of this thesis is to examine how organizational dependencies, legal frameworks and planning processes influence construction and demolition (C&D) waste circularity in the construction and demolition ecosystem. As global population growth continues to drive increasing demand for construction, society is constantly faced with more transport needs, more emissions and more resource use. In this context, the circular economy principles promise a potential way to mitigate this by promoting the reuse of construction and demolition materials. Existing studies have noted that the construction industry can implement the principles of the circular economy, but the progress in practice remains limited; as such, there is an overarching need to increase circularity in the construction sector. Previous studies have made important contributions by identifying a wide range of barriers influencing construction industry circularity-spanning regulation, organization, material quality, and information sharing. These barriers are not isolated phenomena; instead, they are deeply embedded within networks of actor dependences shaped by organizational structures and planning frameworks (legislation and planning processes). Advancing construction circularity, therefore, requires a comprehensive understanding of how actors relate to one another, coordinate across the organization, and collaborate. In addition, addressing legislative barriers requires not only examining the legislation itself but also understanding how this legislation interacts with the practical realities of industry actors. Therefore, this study follows the research questions: RQ 1: How do actors' dependencies within the construction/demolition ecosystem influence the advancement of circularity? RQ 2: How do planning processes and legal frameworks affect the advancement of construction material circularity?]]></description>

      <title>Trafikverkets LCC-hänsyn : från styrdokument till tillämpning</title>

      <description><![CDATA[This report examines the Swedish Transport Administration's measures to strengthen the consideration of life-cycle costs (LCC). The measures respond to an internal audit and a so-called Director-General risk. This perspective can be expected to characterize an organization responsible for managing and developing infrastructure, but the necessary conditions and incentives may be constrained by narrow organizational or individual areas of responsibility. Several objectives may compete for the organization's and individuals' time, resources and attention. The report presents a document analysis of the current governance of LCC and an interview study of the content, organization and governance of the ongoing measures to strengthen the consideration of LCC. Agency theory is used to highlight goal conflicts and incentive problems that may hinder the implementation and effectiveness of the work. The Swedish Transport Administration is undertaking a broad and ambitious change effort that addresses key governance risks, both during the ongoing preparatory phase and in relation to future application. A theme in the interviews is that improved governance documents alone are not sufficient to raise the priority of LCC in practice. The respondents emphasize the need for extensive communication and training efforts, as well as clear and adequate incentives for employees. The report highlights the need for new and more long-term responsibilities and mandates to take over once the preparatory measures have been completed and the internal audit's comments and the Director-General risk have been addressed. Otherwise, there is a risk of new gaps emerging between the governance of LCC. The change effort risks are being hampered by the fact that the definition of LCC had not been clarified before several parallel LCC measures were initiated.       <title>Driving behavior and safety targets : a naturalistic perspective</title>

      <description><![CDATA[This thesis focuses on the foundations for formulating and assessing these safety targets, with the aim of supporting the development of ADSs and ADASs, and ultimately improving traffic safety. First, the thesis investigates the impact of data selection on the outcomes of virtual safety assessment. The findings indicate that crashes artificially generated from these data can differ substantially from real-world crashes, leading to lower severity outcomes, reduced criticality, and inaccurate benefit estimations. Second, the thesis evaluates the safety performance of the reference models described in UN Regulation No. 157 to determine whether they represent adequate safety targets for ADSs. A comparison of the models' responses to those of real drivers in safety-critical scenarios reveals that the models do not perform like the competent and careful drivers they are intended to represent. Third, the thesis analyzes lane-changing behavior and its relation to the surrounding driving context. The results describe characteristics of lane-changing behavior that can be used in modeling, including a modified definition of lane-change initiation that incorporates a lateral speed threshold (in addition to the lateral position threshold used to define lane changes in current reference driver models). Finally, the thesis investigates the link between off-road glance behavior and crash risk for car-following scenarios. In line with previous literature, our results suggest that drivers adapt only modestly to time gap-related crash risk, yet they reduce both the frequency and duration of off-road glances as time to collision gets shorter. The findings highlight issues in current regulatory behavior model-based safety targets and the challenges that current reference models face, both in their formulation and in the data and methods used to assess safety target validity.]]></description>

      <title>Planning for high-quality bus services : understanding collaborative dynamics and public resistance</title>

      <description><![CDATA[This thesis addresses the challenges associated with the planning and implementation of high-quality bus services, with a particular focus on collaborative dynamics between responsible organisations and public resistance to such projects. Using empirical material from Swedish cases, the thesis aims to develop a deeper understanding of the planning and implementation processes of high-quality bus services in Sweden. It focuses on coordination between organisations responsible for public transport planning and provision, and protests against a high-quality bus service. The thesis comprises four research papers. Papers 1 and 4 examine the collaborative dynamics among organisations involved in planning and implementing high-quality bus services, with particular attention to how challenges emerge and are handled during different planning stages. Paper 2 focuses on developing an understanding of how Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) can be understood and planned for in small and medium-sized cities. Paper 3 investigates public protests against BRT implementation through an analysis of debates in local media, providing insight into the drivers of public resistance. The findings show that collaborative challenges occur throughout the planning and implementation process and primarily stem from conflicting organisational roles, motivations, and objectives. Early planning stages are characterised by difficulties in developing joint problem formulations and shared goals, while later stages reveal a lack of common understanding of what constitutes a high-quality bus service in the local context. These challenges often lead to conflicts over infrastructure design, operational decisions, and service characteristics. To support coordination and collaboration among involved actors, a planning tool for Swedish BRT has been developed to facilitate dialogue and the development of shared objectives in early planning stages.]]></description>

      <title>Freight transportation security system</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Freight transportation security concerns both public and private actors, however, their interests are often misaligned resulting in conflicting pressure and trade-offs. To understand this, a connection of macro and micro perspectives is required, which is enabled by an institutional lens. Furthermore, there is limited empirical knowledge of how policy design and implementation shape operational conditions. Thus, the purpose of this thesis is to increase understanding of freight transportation security from an organisational field perspective, and to analyse how institutions and organisational responses shape practice and influence security, legitimacy, efficiency, and effectiveness. This research has an open system perspective combining inductive reasoning with deductive elements. It comprises four studies that have been conducted with a qualitative multi-method approach on an organisational field-level using a field experiment, an interview study, an integrative literature review, and an evaluative case study. Together the four appended papers study intermodal transportation and transportation of dangerous goods, and analyse how regulations, law enforcement, security solutions, and other institutional arrangements influence operational conditions, organisational responses, and performance. The findings show that freight transportation security is shaped by interacting institutions and that misfit between institutional expectations and operational conditions leads to uneven implementation, trade-offs between security and efficiency, low legitimacy, and unknown effectiveness. This research develops and applies the Freight Transportation Security System (FTSS) model that captures roles of institutions and enabling mechanisms in shaping operational conditions, organisational responses, and performance.]]></description>

      <title>Biomethane for fossil-free freight : understanding roles, experiences and engagements among logistics stakeholders</title>

      <description><![CDATA[This doctoral thesis explores how the use of biomethane as a fossil-free fuel in road freight affects logistics stakeholders and their relationships with each other. While electrification presently dominates green logistics research, biomethane remains underrepresented despite its range, similarities to diesel, local production and encouragement to a more circular economy. The purpose of the doctoral kappa is to increase understanding of how using biomethane in road freight affects logistics stakeholders and their relationships. Three research questions were posed. The first, What roles do logistics stakeholders take when utilizing biomethane in road freight?, resulted in findings revealing that logistics stakeholders assumed dynamic roles based upon activity and influence. The second research question, Which drivers and barriers do logistics stakeholders experience when utilizing biomethane in road freight?, resulted in the identification of drivers and barriers experienced by the logistics stakeholders within the dimensions of technology, customer, organizational culture, costs, society and policy. The last research question, How do logistics stakeholders engage with one another when biomethane is utilized in road freight?, resulted in identification of engagement approaches to understand interactions amongst logistics stakeholders when using biomethane in road freight. Empirical data were collected through a systematic literature review, two case studies, interview studies, and document analysis within the Swedish context, focusing on logistics stakeholders' use of biomethane in road freight.]]></description>

The recommendations have been developed based on the theoretical findings of the research project “Voluntary climate-related demands on transports in the procurement of transport services” financed by the Swedish Innovation Agency Vinnova. The recommendations enable the reduction of transport emissions without compromising service quality or cost efficiency. In developing these recommendations, the interorganizational dynamics between transport buyers, transport providers and customers - as well as the structural and market-related challenges they face - have been taken into account. Thus, the recommendations are actionable within the context of business relationships between transport buyers and their transport providers and customers.]]></description>

      <title>System-level impact of electrification on the road freight transport system : a system dynamics approach</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Road freight transport is a major contributor to global emissions. Decarbonising the sector is challenging but essential to achieving sustainability goals. While electrification of heavy-duty trucks offers a promising decarbonisation pathway, this transition is more than just a technological shift; it is a "system transition" shaped by multiple interconnections among technological innovation, infrastructure expansion, market adoption, stakeholder engagement, and policy interventions. Understanding this system transition requires moving beyond isolated technical or financial analyses toward a holistic perspective that captures how decisions by stakeholders such as freight operators, charging providers, vehicle manufacturers, electricity suppliers, and policymakers interact through feedback mechanisms that unfold over time. This thesis investigates the dynamic complexity shaping the transition to electrified road freight transport using System Dynamics (SD) methodology. Through six appended papers, the research addresses three fundamental questions: How does electrification impact the freight system at the system level? How can this dynamic complexity be modelled? How can such modelling support informed decision-making toward sustainable transport? The research begins by structuring future pathways for automation, electrification, and digitalisation using morphological analysis, mapping 23 technology parameters across four scenarios. A conceptual multi-layer model then distinguishes direct electrification effects (e.g., vehicle cost, charging need) from induced effects that ripple through supply chains, transport markets and infrastructure, illustrated with causal loop diagrams (CLDs). Three quantitative SD models capture critical transition dynamics: the co-evolution of electric truck adoption and charging infrastructure development, revealing "chicken-and-egg" dynamics and policy leverage points; the complex trade-offs between business efficiency and societal efficiency, exposing potential rebound effects; and the cross-sectoral interdependencies between freight electrification and electricity supply, revealing how capacity constraints and price dynamics impact electric truck adoption trajectories. Finally, a multi-system transitions (MST) perspective is combined with qualitative SD in two cases (forestry, port hinterland) to map technology, actor and institutional couplings between freight and electricity systems.]]></description>

      <title>Supporting the next generation of transport scholars in Sub-Saharan Africa : insights, challenges, and opportunities</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Young scholars in Africa are crucial to the future of research and development on the continent, yet they often face multifaceted challenges that constrain their professional growth and research potential. In order to make systematic interventions to strengthen the work and careers of young African scholars, it is important to understand the conditions under which they are trained and work. This paper focuses on professional conditions, experiences, and coping mechanisms of Next Generation (NextGen) scholars in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) who work specifically within the area of urban transport, mobility and access. This area is broad in scope, encompassing work within e.g. urban planning, engineering, geography, economics, sociology, anthropology, political science, development studies, history, human geography and industrial relations. This study is a synthesis of four knowledge-based, reflective “think pieces” written by teams of NextGen scholars from various parts of SSA. The four think pieces used different theoretical frameworks, methodological approaches and sources of data; together they reflect the professional lived experiences and views of approximately 120 participating young scholars. The work is complemented by additional findings from the literature and invited contributions.]]></description>

      <title>Transformation of Maritime Industry through Autonomous Ship: A Systematic Review of Operational Landscapes</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) is reshaping maritime industry by introducing automation, affecting port infrastructure, workforce, and regulatory frameworks. This study aims to systematically review the current state of research on MASS and assess its transformative impacts on maritime industry. A systematic analysis was conducted of 45 articles that were selected from 524 articles on the Web of Science (WoS) database through PRISMA process. Emerging keywords such as model, system, and bibliometric suggest a growing interest in technological integration and meta-analytical approaches. Moreover, the analysis highlights the need for greater attention to port integration, regulatory compliance, workforce transformation, and infrastructure readiness to support the adoption of MASS. This review highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and policy adaptation to ensure the effective and responsible integration of MASS into maritime operations.]]></description>

      <title>Research progress of pavement icing status recognition and icing sensor</title>

      <description><![CDATA[The state of the road surface weather is crucial to road safety, and road icing is one of the main factors causing traffic accidents. To promote the development of road icing recognition and sensing technology, this article reviews the research progress of road icing sensors both domestically and internationally. Firstly, the classification of pavement status was introduced, the hazards of pavement icing to traffic safety were clarified, and the importance of pavement icing identification to traffic safety management was recognized. Then, based on the different ways of pavement icing perception, the pavement icing sensor was divided into contact pavement icing sensor and non-contact pavement icing sensor, and the classification, working principle and characteristics of pavement icing sensor were analyzed and summarized. At the same time, based on the differences of different pavement state recognition technologies and the actual road inspection and monitoring needs, the application scope, recommendation index and improvement suggestions of various pavement icing sensors are given. Finally, the future improvement direction of pavement icing sensor is discussed. It is suggested that the meteorological information system of the road network should be combined with the road icing sensor to realize the timely warning of the road icing state and improve the road traffic safety.]]></description>

      <title>Research on the Operational Efficiency of Airlines Based on the Characteristics of Airport Clusters</title>

      <description><![CDATA[The features of airport clusters have a big impact on regional air transport. But problems within these clusters also affect airline operations. This study uses the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model. It selects 16 airlines of different sizes as samples. It also identifies relevant input and output indicators to measure operational efficiency. The results show that the efficiency of large and medium-sized airlines generally went up. Small airlines have shown a slow but steady improvement in efficiency, with significant volatility due to cost and slot constraints. So, the study analyzes pure technical efficiency, scale efficiency, and comprehensive efficiency. It finds out the changing patterns of operational efficiency among airlines of different sizes and the reasons behind them.]]></description>

      <title>Oxidation of gasoline fuels with identical RON on a homogeneous charge compression ignition engine</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) combustion mode is a promising combustion strategy for range extension of hybrid electric vehicles, due to its high thermal efficiency at specific load conditions. However, the fuel combustion in HCCI mode is triggered by fuel auto-ignition kinetics, and a comprehensive understanding of fuel oxidation kinetics is essential for HCCI combustion modulation. In pursuit of this, experimental studies were performed on a modified Cooperative Fuels Research (CFR) engine to investigate the oxidation characteristics of a practical gasoline and five gasoline model fuels: PRF (n-heptane/iso-octane), TRF-30T and TRF-20T (n-heptane/iso-octane/toluene), TRFD-20D (n-heptane/iso-octane/toluene/diisobutylene), and TRFDC (n-heptane/iso-octane/toluene/diisobutylene/cyclopentane), which have identical research octane number (RON). The experimental results revealed that the same-RON gasoline fuels displayed distinct oxidation reactivities: generally, practical gasoline was the most reactive, followed by PRF > TRF-20T > TRF-30 T > TRFD-20D > TRFDC. To analyze the compositional effect on the oxidation reactivity of gasoline model fuels, we developed and validated a gasoline chemical kinetic mechanism. Kinetic modeling indicated that the addition of toluene or a mixture of toluene and diisobutylene to PRF, forming the TRF or TRFD-20D, reduces the blended fuel reactivity through OH radical consumption through hydrogen abstraction reactions. They are, for toluene, C₆H₅CH₃ + OH = C₆H₄CH₃ + H₂O and C₆H₅CH₃ + O₂ = C₆H₅CH₂ + HO₂, and for diisobutylene, IC₈D₄ + OH = IC₈D₄-5R + H₂O. The addition of cyclopentane to TRFD-20D, forming TRFDC, reduces reactivity by depleting highly reactive species and consuming OH radicals through H₂O₂-forming reactions.]]></description>
