      <description><![CDATA[AFTER A SHORT EXPLANATION OF THE DIFFERENCES IN THE CONSTITUTION OF SILICEOUS AND ALUMINOUS BARIUM CEMENTS, THE MINERALOGICAL CONSTITUENTS OF SILICEOUS BARIUM CEMENT CLINKERS (BARIUM ALITE, BARIUM BELITE, BARIUM CELITE, TRIBARIUM SULFATE, DIBARIUM SULFATE, TRIBARIUM ALUMINATE, BARIUM ALUMINATE, TETRABARIUM ALUMINATE FERRITE, DIBARIUM FERRITE) AND THE EVOLUTION OF THEIR FORMATION DURING THE BURNING PROCESS ARE DESCRIBED. THE PRINCIPLE OF THE METHOD FOR CALCULATING THE POTENTIAL PHASE COMPOSITION OF CLINKER IS INDICATED, THE RESULTS OF MICROSCOPIC STUDIES ARE REPORTED AND THE EFFECTS OF VARIOUS MINERALOGICAL CONSTITUENTS OF SILICEOUS BARIUM CEMENTS ON THEIR HYDRAULIC PROPERTIES ARE DISCUSSED.       <title>THE GRAVIMETRIC DETERMINATION OF STRONTIUM OXIDE IN PORTLAND CEMENT</title>

      <description><![CDATA[METHODS WERE STUDIED FOR THE GRAVIMETRIC DETERMINATION OF THE STRONTIUM CONTENT OF PORTLAND CEMENT. THE ONE SELECTED WAS DEVELOPED BY MODIFYING AN EXISTING METHOD SO AS TO PERMIT THE DETERMINATION OF THE SMALL AMOUNTS OF STRONTIUM PRESENT IN CEMENT. THE METHOD IS BASED ON THE SOLUBILITY OF CALCIUM NITRATE AND THE INSOLUBILITY OF STRONTIUM NITRATE IN 80 PERCENT NITRIC ACID. THE ACCURACY OF THE PROCEDURE WAS DEMONSTRATED BY ANALYZING SAMPLES OF KNOWN LOW STRONTIUM CONTENT. CALCIUM DID NOT APPEAR TO INTERFERE WITH THE ANALYSES. ANALYSES OF 30 CEMENTS GRAVIMETRICALLY AND FLAME PHOTOMETRICALLY SHOWED RESULTS AVERAGING 0.02 PERCENTAGE POINTS HIGHER BY THE LATTER METHOD. ALTHOUGH THE GRAVIMETRIC METHOD IS THE SLOWER OF THE TWO, IT GIVES GOOD ACCURACY AND DOES NOT REQUIRE COSTLY APPARATUS. /PCA/]]></description>
